Engineering body funding for Liverpool University research tops £3 million

The Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council (EPSRC) has awarded the University of Liverpool more than £3 million for two major drugs projects.
Two thirds of the amount will enable the validation of a new polymeric material and seek to enhance oral dosing of drugs through the use of new emulsion technologies.
The project, led by the university’s nanomedicine partnership, is not limited to a single drug class or disease and may impact large numbers of people with a variety of healthcare needs.
A second grant of £1 million-plus will fund ophthalmic innovations including prolonged drug delivery to the eye following traumatic surgery.

The EPSRC is the prime government agency for funding research and training in engineering and the physical sciences. It invests more than £800 million a year in materials science, information technology, structural engineering and related areas.
