Singapore likes environmentally friendly cars
25 Oct 2001
The Singapore Economic Development Board (EDB) has signed a letter-of-intent with BP Singapore for the development and provision of a hydrogen refuelling infrastructure as a step towards the introduction of environmentally-friendly cars to Singapore's roads.
In May 2001, EDB and automotive company DaimlerChrysler announced their intention to co-operate on a best effort basis to launch and implement a fuel cell vehicle demonstration and development project.
This initiative was announced as the inaugural project under the SINERGY programme (Singapore Initiative in Energy Technology), which aims to make Singapore a leading player in the development of alternative energy technology. SINERGY is part of the Singapore Government's effort to promote more R&D and test-bedding activities in the area of clean energy for both automotive and stationary power applications.
Under the deal, BP Singapore will act as a participating member of the project and will collaborate with EDB and other relevant partners to support the successful introduction of hydrogen fuel cell cars to Singapore.
BP Singapore will develop and supply the required hydrogen-refuelling infrastructure for clean fuel cell cars, equipped with hydrogen-fuelled fuel cell powertrains.
