Bulb eater eats bulbs
18 May 2001
Once in a while, someone invents a product that you can just tell will be a success. The Air Cycle Corporation's 'Bulb Eater' is just one of those products.
Two options presently exist for the proper disposal of lamps. One option is to keep them intact prior to pick up by the disposal guys - but this approach just lacks the fun of the second option.
Which is, of course, to safely crush the lamps with a Bulb Eater machine from The Air Cycle Corporation and have your drums of crushed lamps picked up by the company's nationwide (in the US) recycling program.
The 55 gallon Model 55 VRS-U Bulb Eater includes a system designed to filter both dust and neutralise mercury vapour during crushing.
The system exceeds both OSHA and ACGIH standards for mercury vapour exposure, and crushes standard T12 fluorescent lamps as well as U-Shape fluorescent lamps. Removable adapters are available for T8 and T17 diameter lamps.
Each 55-gallon container holds roughly 825 T12 4' lamps, 800+ T12 U-Shaped lamps, 1000 T8 4' lamps, and 450 T12 8' lamps.
And what a lot of fun too!
