BNG awards Sellafield MOX contract

Manchester, UK — British Nuclear Group (BNG) has signed up RTS Innovation Ltd to carry out a three-year contract for design and engineering work on the Mixed Oxide Fuel (MOX) facility at Sellafield. The deal is worth around £8 million over the three years, said RTS, part of International Nuclear Solutions plc (INS).
According to INS, the contract involves supporting 30 ongoing MOX engineering projects in collaboration with 100 BNG engineers. This, it said, involves providing ‘proof of concept, detailed design, manufacturing and works testing for each of these projects.”
“By using the same experienced contractor for all our existing projects, we expect to improve the quality of design and, by eradicating the learning curve, speed project delivery, saving both time and money,” said a BNG spokesman.
INS, which was formed in June as the nuclear services division of the RTS Group, specialises in waste and nuclear materials handling, processing and storage, and also provides support for plant asset care and maintenance of redundant facilities. The new entity claims to be the only dedicated nuclear services company on the London Stock Exchange and one of the UK’s largest nuclear engineering companies.
