British Energy actuates training at nuclear plants

Bristol, UK – British Energy, part of EDF Energy, has installed over 400 AUMA actuators at a number of its sites, including Hinkley B, Dungeness B and Hunterston B. The company has engaged the manufacturer to provide tailored training programmes to support its use of the technology.
British Energy uses AUMA actuators to facilitate process control automation. It, therefore regards the technology as ’process critical’, with heavy emphasis on the development of practical skills around its application.
Designed specifically for British Energy’s electrical maintenance technicians, AUMA’s on-site training tool is interactive and supported by working product examples.
“Our technicians are practical people and AUMA’s training is adapted to meet our needs,” said Rodger Smith, a British Energy Electrical Technical Training Instructor based at Dungeness B. “In contrast to traditional classroom learning, it is effective at ensuring staff retain information and enhance their skill levels.”
AUMA claims to have specialist expertise in supporting nuclear plants and their obsolescence initiatives, and offers actuators specifically designed for use in nuclear power plants. Installations include the world’s first generation 3 reactor, Olkiluoto 3 in Finland.
