Stuttgart, Germany – Coperion GmbH has landed its biggest ever single contract – a Euro100m deal with Borouge to build the entire materials handling systems for the third expansion stage of a large scale plant for the production of polyolefin in Ruwais, UAE.
Borouge, a JV between the Abu Dhabi National Oil Co and Borealis, is expanding its production capacity in the polyolefin production by around another 2,000ktpa to a total of 4,500ktpa.
The new plants in Ruwais include two production lines each for the manufacture of polypropylene (PP) and polyethylene (PE) as well as a line for low density polyethylene (LDPE) over an area of approximately 700,000 square meters.
Coperion’s role covers the procedural planning and all connected engineering services for the complete plant as well as the delivery of machines and key components for the handling, transport and warehousing of the bulk materials.
The scope of delivery consists of around 20km of pipes, more than 120 rotary valves, about 280 diverter valves and 220 filters in addition to two ZSK 380 high performance extruders for compounding of the polypropylene. The engineering for the large scale project also requires about 90,000 hours.
Coperion already laid the foundations for this contract with two plants for Borouge’s polyolefin production in Ruwais which were delivered in 1999 and 2007.
