Saudi Aramco taps Samsung for major gas projects

Dhahran – Saudi Aramco has selected Samsung Engineering Co. Ltd. to perform the EPC work for all four lump sum turnkey contracts on its major Shaybah natural gas liquids (NGL) programme.
The award includes the construction of the inlet facilities, NGL recovery trains, dehydration, residue gas compression, acid gas compression, NGL storage and shipping, the upgrade of the gas handling capacity for the four existing Shaybah gas oil separation plants (GOSPs) and other associated facilities.
Plans also include a major upgrade to increase the power generation capacity to more than 1GW by installing four cogeneration units, seven single cycle units, a 50km 230KV transmission line, and the associated electrical and non-electrical utilities.
The Saudi Aramco plant at the Shaybah Field in Rub’ al-Khali, will extract NGL components from 2,400 million standard cubic feet per day of gas arriving from different existing GOSPs.
