RWE Dea chooses Honeywell for North Sea platform projects
12 Oct 2011
London – RWE Dea has selected Honeywell Process Solutions’ to design and install the integrated control and safety systems at two new North Sea platforms, Clipper South and Breagh A. Production is expected to start in both locations in 2012.
The projects, which are due for completion at the end of 2011, will see Honeywell’s ICSS implemented at the two platforms. The aim is to simplify operator training procedures and reduce maintenance costs in support of an RWE Dea expansion into the region.
The Breagh field is located in the Southern North Sea, about 86km from RWE Dea UK’s Cavendish gas field. The resources of Breagh gas field, together with its surrounding fields, constitute one of the largest undeveloped natural gas discoveries in the Southern North Sea. The Clipper South field also lies in the Southern North Sea.
RWE Dea chose the HPS technology following the successful implementation of its ICSS at RWE’s Cavendish platform five years ago. Once installed it will provide a single system architecture that is simple, robust and modular and delivers the lowest total cost of ownership while safe guarding users’ investment for years to come.
Honeywell will supply its Experion Process Knowledge System for the project. The system, it claims, “transforms process control beyond traditional DCS functionality by unifying people with process variables, business requirements and asset management.”
