Russia fertiliser producer adds Honeywell simulation system

London – Russia’s largest mineral fertilizer producer EuroChem is to equip five of its ammonia production units with Honeywell Process Solutions’ UniSim operator training simulation (OTS) system. The applications will be at its Nevinnomysskiy Azot and Novomoskovskiy Azot facilities in Russia.
Eurochem will use UniSim to create simulated process scenarios as part of its training programme for plant operators. The OTS system can enable process operators to familiarise themselves with the operation of plant equipment before entering the actual plant control room, and so reduce the risk of industrial accidents.
According to Honeywell, the Russian company will be able to train operators in a wide variety of simulated plant scenarios, allowing them to gain experience in a controlled environment. UniSim software, it said, also offers a pre-training preparation system – a suite of products that can be used to study cause-and-effect relationships in the process facility, analyse symptoms, diagnose problems and test emergency response.
“A common problem in our industry today is the shortage of skilled personnel,” said EuroChem head of technological development German Tsvetinsky. The new software, he said, “will be used to train new and experienced operators in a safe environment, and maintain their skillls at a high level …. [It] also allows us to integrate technical systems from multiple vendors into one universal training programme, which is very important for us.”
