Technologies to watch: Fluids Handling

KSB is starting production of its high-efficiency SuPremE electric motor series (pictured) at its factory in Halle, Germany. In contrast to conventional synchronous motors, it does not contain any magnetic materials, which are regarded as critical raw materials, but cannot be mined without environmental impact. As the new drives no longer need failure-prone rotor position sensors, they are as robust and reliable as speed-controlled asynchronous motors, claims KSB.
The Presense LDS300 level detection and switching system from Fluidwell Instruments BV can handle pressures of up to 25 Bar, temperatures from -40°C to 200°C as well as abrasive and corrosive environments and with low dielectric materials. Response signals from the device vary as the material interferes with an electric field generated around the sensor. The LDS300 is available in the UK through icenta Controls.
Emerson has announced that selected models of its Mobrey horizontal magneticfloat level switches have been certified in accordance with IEC61508 to attain (Safety Integrity Level) SIL 1 for a single device and SIL 2 for a pair of devices. This follows an FMEDA (failure modes, effects and diagnostic analysis)evaluation by Exida evaluation of the devices, which are used in the oil and gas, power, refining and chemical industries.
Pfaudler is now providing a range of bottom outlet valves, which it claims, provide advanced product control through highly accurate temperature measurement and meet the increasing demands for environmental protection. The valves, it said, are particularly suitable for vessels operating at low liquid levels where a temperature probe on the baffle will not reach or where confirmation of heat dispersion/dual process monitoring is required.
Bürkert has launched a modular multichannel transmitter/controller designed for multiple sensor connections including flow, temperature and analytical. The Type 8619 multiCELL can lower total installation costs by allowing multiple sensor inputs into one common clear display. Engineers, noted Bürkert are nowadays pushed for time and want products which are easy to install and maintain whilst delivering all of the required functionalities.
Flygt has extended its range of electric, submersible dewatering pumps to include the redesigned, lightweight and tough, Ready Series. The smallest of the dewatering models, the Ready series is built to withstand tough use, easily removing contaminated water and water containing sand and gravel. Handling flows up to 100 GPM, heads to 50 feet and solids up to 1.5 inches in diameter, these portable drainage pumps are compact and engineered for repeated use, year after year.
SICK UK is launching a new fluid level probe for use in both oil- and water-based fluids. The LFP Cubic is expected to find a wide range of uses in the water and process industries. Guided microwave technology means the unit’s measuring performance is unaffected by the density or conductivity of the fluid, making it more accurate even for deposit-forming and foaming liquids.
