Barr adds soft drinks coolers
9 Jul 2012
London - AG Barr, maker of soft drinks including Irn-Bru, Rubicon and KA, has recently installed three heat exchangers for cooling carbonated drinks prior to bottling.
The new MI 55 series units, from HRS Heat Exchangers, are designed for food applications involving fluids of low to intermediate viscosities.
Carbonated drinks flow through corrugated interior tubes to bring the temperature down. The design, claims HRS, create extra turbulence, which significantly increases heat transfer compared to smooth tube heat exchangers.
The heat exchangers have been vertically mounted to fit into a relatively small plant footprint left free by the removal of existing plate heat exchangers.
In order to use the existing pumps, the new units have been designed to keep the pressure drop to a very low level and so reduce the required pumping power and cost.
