Wood Group PSN to build CMMS for Shell Prelude
15 Aug 2012
London – Wood Group PSN (WGPSN) has been awarded a $10 million (AUD) contract by Shell to build the computerised maintenance management system (CMMS) for its Prelude Floating Liquefied Natural Gas (FLNG) facility, off the coast of Western Australia.
Prelude FLNG is the world’s first FLNG development. It is a revolutionary technology that will allow Shell to access offshore gas fields that would otherwise be too costly or difficult to develop.
The CMMS, said the supplier, will be designed to optimise the maintenance, reliability and productivity of the Prelude FLNG facility. It will equip Shell with the data, reporting tools and strategies required to execute asset maintenance and inspection plans.
The integrated service contract will involve WGPSN’s ODL business and sister company Wood Group Integrity Management (WGIM). It will be delivered by contract teams in Perth, Australia and Aberdeen, UK.
“This is an iconic engineering development centred on the largest floating, man-made structure ever built,” said Matt Gavin, regional director for WGPSN Australia.
Prelude will chill natural gas produced at the field to -162° Celsius, shrinking its volume by 600 times so it can be shipped to customers in other parts of the world.
Wood Group PSN is an established supplier of operations and technical support to Shell worldwide. This includes integrated brownfield and engineering service contracts in the UK North Sea, Asia and the US.
