Orangina Schweppes adds HRS heat exchangers

London – HRS Heat Exchangers has recently supplied Citricos Y Refrescantes S.A. (CITRESA) with heat exchangers for a pasteuriser system installed at its Valencia plant in Spain.
CITRESA, part of Orangina Schweppes, produces industrial product for internal use in the bottling factories in the group. Orangina Schweppes, a key player in the European soft drinks market is part of the Suntory Group.
The pasteuriser for the Valencia site is part of a complete line for blending and processing concentrate and will process 6,000kg/h of concentrate. The pasteuriser will stabilise the microbiological quality of the concentrate before it can be stored on site.
The MI Series, supplied by HRS for the pasteuriser, features corrugated inner tubes that increase the rate of heat transfer coefficient, allowing a more rapid thermal treatment. Juices pasteurised in corrugated tube will retain more of their natural properties.
Whilst orange juice has some natural protection from bacteria, yeast and mould, pasteurisation is still required to provide additional resistance to contamination and re-contamination. In addition to stabilising the microbiological content, it is also important to retain the nutritional benefits of the product when pasteurisation occurs.
“The pasteuriser is an important part of recent developments at our Valencia site which will enable us to provide orange and lemon juice concentrate to all the Suntory companies in Spain and France,” said said Alfredo Puchades, production manager, Citricos Y Refrescantes.
“The [capability] of the heat exchanger from HRS encouraged us to use it to maintain the long shelf life of our product,” he added.
