Alfa Laval wins Guinness deal
2 Oct 2013
Swedish pump manufacturer Alfa Laval today announced it had won a SEK 60 million (£5.8m) contract to supply equipment to Diageo’s world famous Guinness brewery in Dublin.
Alfa Laval specialises in heat transfer, separation and fluid handling technology, including pumps and centrifuges. Its equipment will be installed in a complete process line for wort treatment at the St. James Gate brewery, located in the heart of the Irish Capital.
“The order confirms that our innovative solutions meet the specific and high demands from the brewery industry,” said Alfa Laval president and CEO Lars Renström.
The supply contract is part of a €153 million (£127.7m) investment by Diageo to turn St. James Gate into a “brewing centre of excellence”, a two year project first announced in January 2012.
Construction of the new brewery at Guinness’ historic Dublin site began in summer 2012. It comprises a brewhouse facility, new grain intake and associated silos, an extension of the existing Fermentation Plant to the southwest of the new brewery, extension to utilities generation and distribution, new production offices and laboratories.
The new brewhouse has a capacity of approximately 7m Hectolitres, while the laboratories will allow Diageo to develop new experimental ales at the same time as maintaining constant production of existing drinks brands brewed at St. James Gate, such as Guinness and Budweiser.
