Waste gas firm secures £1m investment

A UK firm developing advanced gasification from waste projects including Air Products’ Tees Valley plant has secured £1 million in funding from a variety of investors.
Waste2Tricity combines plasma gasification processes with gas turbines to convert non-recyclable waste into electricity. It is also developing the use of fuel cell technology in this process.
Yesterday the firm secured £1million in its latest funding round, which was oversubscribed. Investors included UK tech firm AFC Energy, for whose fuel cells Waste2Electricity have the exclusive UK license, and Chelsea owner Roman Abramovich’s Ervington Investments.
One of the first projects to deploy Waste2Tricity’s advanced gasification process will be industrial gas firm Air Products’ Tees Valley Renewable Energy Facility in Billingham, Teeside.
The 49MW advanced gasification energy from waste facility will turn 300,000 tonnes of waste per annum into electricity, and is currently being built by local contractor Tolent Construction.
The site is also being considered for a demonstration of AFC’s fuel cell technology.
