Cargill to upgrade UK process plant
7 Nov 2013
Cargill is currently upgrading its poultry processing plant in Hereford with a £35m phased-investment to improve efficiency and upgrade existing technology.
Due for completion within 36 months, the facility in Hereford is currently capable of processing up to 1.3 million birds - which are reared for human consumption - per week.
The technology is to optimise energy consumption [and] optimise the cold chain throughout the process

During the course of the upgrade, Cargill have said it will implement technologies across the plant that will ensure it is one of the most efficient processing facilities in Europe.
Having already introduced controlled atmosphere stunning, the next phase of the upgrade will include an expansion to the plant’s overall chilling capacity.
A Cargill spokesperson told Process Engineering: “The [improved] technology is to optimise our throughput rates, energy consumption, improve yields, optimise the cold chain throughout the process and optimise the ‘total cost of ownership’.”
As the plant upgrade is still in the process of being completed, it is currently unknown as to whether or not all suppliers of upgrade technologies have been finalised for the next stages of the project.
