AMEC wins North Sea platform contract
13 Nov 2013
AMEC has won a hook-up and commissioning contract at four GDF Suez platforms at its Cygnus gas field in the Southern North Sea.
The gas field, which is located roughly 100km off the east coast of England on the shallow Dogger Bank, is the largest gas field discovery in the area in the last 25 years.
Its main hub, Cygnus Alpha, consists of three bridge-linked platforms that provide drilling, accommodation, processing and export facilities.
A second well head platform, Cygnus Bravo, is located in the west of the field and will be linked via a new 51km pipeline to the Esmond Transportation Pipeline, which connects to the UK mainland at the Bacton onshore terminal.
The latest phase, operated by AMEC’s Aberdeen offshore North Sea arm, will form part of a series of platform installations in the field, with first gas scheduled for the fourth quarter of 2015.
Gas production in the Cygnus field is expected to meet the demand of almost 1.5 million UK homes at its peak by 2016 - roughly 5% of all UK gas production.
