Shale environmental video goes live

Cuadrilla yesterday posted a video online outlining the Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) process that supports planning applications for proposed shale gas exploration sites in Lancashire.
At the end of May the firm confirmed it was submitting planning applications to Lancashire County Council for the exploration of two sites near Blackpool. Cuadrilla plans to drill, hydraulically fracture and test the flow of gas from up to four exploration wells at both its Preston New Road and Roseacre Wood sites.

The short film, just over eight minutes long, features interviews with Cuadrilla chief executive Francis Egan and senior members of engineering consultancy Arup’s technical team that have carried out the EIA.
Cuadrilla’s chief executive Francis Egan said: “This video gives a flavour of the extraordinarily thorough job that Arup have completed on these Environmental Impact Assessments. We know shale gas exploration can be done safely, securely and in an environmental responsible way, and we will do that. We stand on the threshold of what could be a whole new industry, not just in the UK, but in Western Europe. Working with Arup, we believe we have set a benchmark for that industry.”
