Cavendish Fluor to run 12 nuclear sites
1 Sep 2014
A joint venture of Fluor and Babcock subsidiary Cavendish Nuclear was today formally awarded the contract to run the decommissioning of 12 nuclear sites in the UK.
Under the multi billion pound contract, awarded by the Nuclear Decommissioning Authority (NDA), Cavendish Fluor Partnership (CFP) will take ownership of Magnox Ltd and Research Sites Restoration (RSRL), the Site Licence Companies (SLCs) for 12 UK nuclear sites.
These sites are the Magnox-operated Berkeley, Bradwell, Chapelcross, Dungeness, Hunterston A, Hinkley Point A, Oldbury, Sizewell A, Trawsfynydd and Wylfa plants; and the RSRL-owned Harwell and Winfrith research facilities.
We will be seeking to standardise the processes and approach taken across all locations

NDA chief executive John Clarke said it was anticipated the contract award to CFP would provide savings in excess of £1.5bn across all 12 sites.
“By introducing a fundamentally different contract, based upon a clear understanding of the scope of work to be delivered across 12 sites over 14 years, we have been able to generate real competitive tension during the competition process,” said Clarke.
“We are delighted that our approach looks set to deliver a reduction in decommissioning costs of more than £1.5 billion.”
Today’s announcement marked the formal contract award and transfer of shares to CFP to make it the Parent Body Organisation (PBO) for the two SLCs. It follows the NDA’s announcement of CFP as the preferred bidder in March and a subsequent five-month transition period.
CFP managing director Kenny Douglas said: “After an intensive transition period, we are delighted to be in contract to implement our delivery plan. Cavendish Nuclear and Fluor have strong track records at sites across the UK and in the United States, and we look forward to applying our experience and expertise to the 12 Magnox and RSRL sites.
”Crucially, we will be seeking to standardise the processes and approach taken and to maximise learning across all locations, integrating the approach and programmes across all the sites, while delivering locally.”
