Follow your heart, says prize winner

Winner of the 2015 Queen Elizabeth Prize for Engineering Robert Langer has advised students to follow their hearts, as he did.
Langer, a chemical engineer and professor at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, won the prize largely for his revolutionary work on polymer-based drug delivery technology.
I feel you should follow your heart and do the things you gravitate towards and that give you satisfaction

Langer’s contribution to medical science spans five decades and has affected the lives of over 2 billion people.
However, Langer suggests that students, particularly science, technology, engineering and maths (STEM) students, should always “follow their hearts”.
“Different people may feel a passion for different things and that’s OK, that’s even good,” Langer told Process Engineering.
“But I feel you should always follow your heart and do the things you gravitate towards and that give you the most satisfaction,” he said.
In the March issue of Process Engineering, Langer discusses the future of bioengineering and offers further insights for the next generation of students.
