FSA funds food innovation
18 Aug 2015
The UK Food Standards Agency (FSA) is handing out new funding for research into a range of topics from food safety to process innovation.
Tasked with overseeing food safety and standards issues, the FSA commissions research to develop and support its policies, and shares knowledge with other EU member states.
It is inviting expressions of interest for ”innovative research proposals” studying the safety issues associated with foodborne listeriosis, and identifying risks to both safety and quality of food that could result from using recycled waste materials within agriculture and food processing.
It will also consider funding research that looks at ways to improve food and feed sampling and analysis, or investigates the use of technology within meat operations.
Research exploring the potential of integrating next-generation sequencing and other ‘big data’ has also being targeted by the agency.
Projects are expected to reach completion by the end of March 2016, but innovative research ideas with clear outcomes that align with its strategic priorities might be considered for further funding, the FSA said.
