Food workshop envisions future
28 Oct 2015
The Food and Drink Federation (FDF) will host a workshop next month that aims to deliver a step-change in food and drink packaging engineering performance.
The event will bring together manufacturers, suppliers, engineers and researchers with the goal of identifying and developing a long-term plan for improved food and drink packaging.
It is also designed to improve how product, packaging, machinery and people work together, a FDF spokesperson said.

The spokesperson said the goal was to engage people in packaging engineering in the pioneering stages, that over time would deliver the productivity improvements – both in individual businesses and for the industry overall.
“It aims to set out a clear vision for packing engineering in the food and drink industry over the next five years, in terms of productivity improvement [and] delivering improved efficiency and reliability in the packaging process.”
Spokesman for the National Centre of Excellence for Food Engineering Martin West said: “The Centre of Excellence has received strong industry backing from food and drink manufacturers to help industry improve manufacturing processes for the future.
“Packaging plays an essential role in this and innovations in packaging, and the information it carries have much potential to reduce environmental impacts and increase productivity,” he said.
The packaging workshop will be held at the Sheffield Hallam University on November 2.
