Show preview: Northern Manufacturing & Electronics 2016
19 Sep 2016
This ever-expanding exhibition returns to Manchester at the end of September.
Manufacturing and engineering technology exhibition, Northern Manufacturing & Electronics, is being held at Manchester’s EventCity from 28-29 September.
The event has continued to expand over its three-year history, with the 2015 exhibition attracting almost 3,000 visitors from right across the UK, many of whom are involved in the supply chain, supporting the major processing and manufacturing operations to be found across the region.
With sectors such as food & beverage and pharmaceuticals so important to the north’s manufacturing economy, the show has become a relevant focal point for the region’s many tier 2 and tier 3 suppliers, say event organisers.
There is a wide range of suppliers taking part at this year’s show, including component distributors, enclosure specialists, CEMS, test equipment manufacturers, drives and controls and subcontractors.

Northern Manufacturing & Electronics is also regarded as a major exhibition for engineering production.
Several of the world’s largest machinery makers are present at the show, running live demonstrations of all the latest technologies from 5-axis machining to press brakes, laser cutting and 3D printing.
Firms returning for 2016 include Amada, Bystronic, Olympus, Nikon Metrology, Haas Automation, Laser Lines, Unison, Yamazaki Mazak and Trumpf.
Of particular interest to process engineers will be the number of component vendors that attend. Just a few of those exhibiting are igus and Kabelschlepp Metool, Variohm EuroSensor, Oerlikon Leybold, AMES and Zikodrive Motor Controllers.
Sub-contract services provide another dimension to the show, with attendees including electronic assembly, contract manufacturing, precision engineering, wiring harnesses and specialist coatings.
Production, management and business services are also well represented at the show.
Examples include industrial cleaning, stock control solutions, waste management, consumables, health and safety equipment, design services, manufacturing software and 3D printing. There will also be exhibitors from areas such as asset finance and training.
Seminar highlights
Experts from a number of different fields will address a wide range of business and technical topics in a two-day programme of free seminars.
Wayne Kite of Stanford Marsh will deliver an overview of the emergent technology of 3D Printing and share some case studies illustrating how it can be utilised in applications in manufacture.
Meanwhile, Ailsa Kaye of Onsite Insights will take a detailed look at best practice in manufacturing, illustrating lessons in innovation, design, cost-effectiveness and delivery from world-class organisations, and showing how they can be practiced in any business to enhance competitive gain.
On more technical themes, Andrew Scarrot of Phoenix Mecano will offer an in-depth study of hazardous area enclosures, IP ratings, approvals and certifications.
Northern Manufacturing & Electronics is accessible by public transport, road or air, and within easy reach of a number of engineering and manufacturing enterprises all over the north, Scotland, Wales, Northern Ireland and the Republic of Ireland.
