Ineos founder Jim Ratcliffe has topped the annual Sunday Times Rich List as the wealthiest individual in the UK.
Estimates put his personal fortune at £21 billion, following a year that saw his fortune leap by more than £15 billion.
The chemicals company recorded profits last year in excess of £5 billion and also has assets of more than £26 billion. Its annual turnover is around £45 billion and it employs more than 18,000 people worldwide.
Ratcliffe, who was born on a council estate near Manchester, only began his first business at the age of 40. He founded Ineos 20 years ago, aged 45, after working for employers including Esso, Courtaulds and Advent International.
