Multimillion pound UAE sustainability awards open for 2023
24 Mar 2022
The £2.2 million Zayed Sustainability Prize, the UAE's global award for recognising organisations and high schools with sustainability solutions, is open for submissions for 2023.
Small to medium enterprises, NGOs and high schools with sustainability solutions can submit entries in one of five categories: health, food, energy, water and secondary schools.
The fund rewards winners in each category with £450,000. Organisations in the four ‘sector’ categories must demonstrate they are improving access to essential products or services and have long-term visions for improving living and working conditions.
The schools category is split into six regional winners: Americas, Europe & Central Asia, Middle East & North Africa, Sub-Saharan Africa, South Asia, and East Asia & Pacific, providing each school with up to £75,000 to start or expand projects.
"For 14 years, the Prize has rewarded the achievements driving innovative and inspiring sustainability solutions," said Sultan Ahmed Al Jaber, UAE Minister of Industry and Advanced Technology who is also director general of the Zayed Sustainability Prize.
"Building on this legacy, we look forward to awarding the next cadre of sustainability pioneers, driving real environmental and social change and generating even greater positive impact on the world."
To date, the award has aided nearly 100 winners, with the recent 2022 award cycle receiving a record-breaking 4,000 applications. This marked a massive annual increase in submissions of almost 70%, and came from an unprecedented 151 countries.
Deadline for entries for the 2023 round is 6 July 2022, with winners announced next year in a ceremony as part of the Abu Dhabi Sustainability Week (ADSW)
