A decanter for the distillery

The CHNX 706 is Alfa Laval's new high-performance decanter centrifuge, developed specifically for large capacity, solids/liquid separation duties in the process industries.
With the ability to dewater at rates up to 130m3/h, the machine can handle slurries ranging from those with a very low solids content (less than 1% dissolved solids) to those of extremely high solids content.
It is said to be particularly suitable for applications such as spent grain handling within the distillery industry. Its hydraulic capacity of 150m3/h makes it ideal for distillers' dark grain solids (DDGS) duties in the region of 70-120m3/h.
All of the main contact parts of the CHNX 706 are machined from centrifugal castings of high-strength, duplex stainless steel. The conveyor differential can be controlled automatically to optimise performance and product quality. Solids are discharged through 360°, thereby providing a larger discharge area and enabling higher product volumes to be handled.
The machine features Alfa Laval's Direct Drive system, which irons out variations in the feed and automatically controls conveyor speed, maintaining the balance between liquid clarity and solids dryness.
In addition, Direct Drive's gearbox and variable frequency drive reduces the bowl's exposure to parasitic braking power. This, in turn, simplifies electrical installation, as well as minimising power consumption.
