Emerson wins Angola contract
20 Oct 2004
Emerson Process Automation has won a $9 million contract to provide automation for a BP floating production, storage and offloading (FPSO) vessel which will operate in the Greater Plutonia Deepwater fields off the coast of Angola. The systems will use Emerson's PlantWeb architecture.
The system will integrate the vessel's subsea, hull and topside controls with emergency shutdown and fire and gas systems. Operators will be able to monitor and control the entire system from consoles in the topside control room, including subsea wellheads, treatment processes, and the loading/offloading system.
The vessel is currently being built by Hyundai Heavy Industries in South Korea. It is 310m long, weighs 80,000 tonne, and will have 120 crew.
The topside facilities will produce an average of 200,000 barrels of export-quality oil per day, and the vessel will be able to store 2 million barrels on board.
'We are pleased at our selection by BP to implement smart FPSO facilities that integrate control and safety systems,' comments John Berra, president of Emerson Process Management.
'Our PlantWeb services and predictive, advanced technologies enable producers to optimise vessel and facility manning, and design safer facilities.'
