Formosa BP Chemicals Corporation (FBPCC) has awarded Aker Kvaerner the contract for the Front End and Extended Basic Engineering for its new Acetic Acid plant in Mai Liao, Taiwan. FBPCC is a Taiwan registered joint venture between Formosa Chemicals and Fibre Corporation and BP.
The project will be managed by AK Process, Aker Kvaerner's European Process Business.
The scope of work includes the front end and extended basic engineering for the core process plant, including implementation of BP Chemicals' Cativa process technology. When fully operational, the new plant will have a capacity to produce 300,000 tons per year of Acetic Acid.
'We are delighted to be working with FBPCC on this technically challenging project, which was won on the basis of cost-effective delivery and technical expertise,' said Wim van der Zande, President of AK Process.
Preliminary work on the project commenced mid April this year, and plant start-up is expected early in 2005.
Aker Kvaerner is also providing the front end engineering design (FEED) phase of a project to expand an Acetic Acid facility at Chongqing, China, for the Yangtze River Acetyls Company Limited.
