Meggitt to commercialise microreactors
11 Feb 2002
The Heatric division of Meggitt, which manufactures printed-circuit heat exchangers, has joined forces with the German Institut für Mikrotechnik Mainz (IMM) to develop and commercialise microreactor technology.
Microreactors - tiny reactors which can run reactions far more efficiently than full-sized vessels - are predicted to have a significant commercial impact in the fine and speciality chemicals fields.
IMM has been producing experimental microreactors for around ten years, while Heatric recently launched a printed-circuit reactor based on its PCHE designs.
The collaboration with IMM, according to Heatric managing director Nick Johnston, 'promises to widen our manufacturing expertise into volume production of microchannel devices.' Production trials will begin within weeks, he adds.
These devices will be produced at Heatric's facilities in Poole, UK.
