Positioners overcome processing problems
11 May 2001
Foxboro has released a new series of positioners that are said to overcome traditional problems associated with positioning technology used on process plants.
The series offers advantages such as modular structure, upgradeable electronics, self diagnostics, easy installation and start-up, IP65 and NEMA 4X enclosures, plus up to 60% less air consumption than conventional electro-pneumatic Positioners.
One of the series, the SRD991 Intelligent I/P Positioner, operates pneumatic valve actuators from control systems and electronic controllers with a choice of process automation protocols including HART, FoxCom, FOUNDATION Fieldbus H1 and Profibus-PA.
The SRD991 Intelligent and SRD992 Digital Positioners both offer improved control performance with the use of their Auto Start feature for automatic valve adaptation.
Retro-fitting this new technology to existing installations is also made simpler by a selection of mounting kits for most manufacturer's valves.
Also important for process applications is the use of housing pressurisation. All the positioners are continuously purged with fresh process air, which moderates internal temperature and helps protect against environmental gases, humidity and airborne particles.
Further benefits offered by the series include, reduced maintenance costs, plus multiple built-in options which include, position transmitter, inductive limit switches, binary inputs and outputs, and pressure sensors for monitoring supply air and output.
