Bostik sticks with Salter Weigh-Tronix
15 Jan 2000
The latest in intrinsically safe weighing technology from Salter Weigh-Tronix has been installed at Bostik in Leicester, one of the largest adhesive manufacturing plants in the country.
Salter Weigh-Tronix's WI150 weight indicator is used to weigh different adhesive solutions in large industrial containers in the plant's churn room, which is a Zone 1 hazardous area.
The solvent-based plant produces over 900 tonnes per year of water and solvent-based liquid solutions, including consumer and industrial adhesive products. Each compound is made up in the churn room and dispensed into canisters of varying sizes, ranging from 250ml tins to 200k drums or 1,000 litre steel-framed containers.
After the canisters are filled, they are all individually weighed. The larger drums and containers, usually containing industrial mixes, are weighed on a platform scale linked to the WI150 weight indicator, before being stored in the main distribution area.
Sharon Francis, Bostik's manufacturing cell leader for liquid adhesives, said: 'The Salter Weigh-Tronix system is ideal for our needs being intrinsically safe, quick and easy to use and giving clear readings to trade approved accuracy. These features ensure that we minimise wastage and save time, while complying with strict industrial standards for environments where solvents are used.'
The Salter Weigh-Tronix WIl50 ultra low power weight indicator is available in mains and battery powered versions and is approved for use in Zone 0, l and 2 environments where flammable substances are handled. It can be linked to a range of printers, computers and filling devices.
