Helix tank system tops off three-tier safety storage
15 Jan 2000
Specialising in precious metal deposition, PMD (UK) of Coventry wanted to uprate its waste acid storage system to stay ahead of the latest health and safety regulations and Duty of Care requirements.
The processes generating waste acids include electroplating for general metal finishing, printed circuit boards, and specialised work for the electronics industry - all involving the use of nickel, silver, copper, gold and other materials.
Previously, waste acids from the plating area were pumped to six standard tanks sited in a common concrete-bunded area and then tankered away as required. The uprated system has now replaced these tanks with six Helix semi-bulk systems, designed and manufactured by Allibert of Gloucester.
Each of the Allibert units incorporates a 2000 litre capacity Helix one-piece tank with an integral bund and rain skirt. The one-piece seamless-wall tanks and bunds were then fitted with tops, bases and fittings as specified. And on top of all that - or rather underneath it - is an underground interceptor pit into which any spillages from the double-bunded installations can be diverted should the need ever arise.
