Switching on the power of valves
15 Jan 2000
According to the Valve and Controls Division of Dresser (290 on enquiry card), the Masoneilan smart valve interface, SVI, is set to revolutionise the way conventional control valves are positioned, controlled and diagnosed. On show at Olympia, the SVI (pictured below) is a 'smart' positioner and PID loop controller in one instrument.
Using its Hart capability, the interface can operate with existing 4-20mA systems, but future upgrades to Fieldbus will be achieved simply with a drop-in module.
Because the SVI is both a positioner and controller, it can eliminate the need for I/P transducers, conventional pneumatic or electro-pneumatic positioners and single-loop pneumatic and electronic controllers.
Demonstrating that big valves often need little valves to make them operate, Asco Joucomatic (291) is showing a new flameproof, high flow, direct-acting poppet valve, the 326. For hazardous area applications, the valve is intended for use where large process valves have to be opened and closed quickly and safely. One particular area of application for the EEx d IIC T3-T6 certified valves is on large actuators - especially diaphragm types - used to operate linear valves in hazardous areas.
