P&ID development gets smarter for `life-cycle' use
15 Jan 2000
With Intergraph's SmartPlant P&ID software package process and instrument engineers can create and maintain `life-cycle' piping and instrumentation diagrams, complete with all associated data.
Aimed at streamlining and automating as much of the P&ID process as possible, the software allows users, including plant engineers, operators, construction and operations personnel, to focus on the plant design itself, rather than the intricacies of using the software.
Intergraph says that developing a schematic in SmartPlant P&ID is straightforward. No CAD training or experience is needed, because the Windows NT-based software has a simple, intuitive user interface. Equipment is simply dragged and dropped from a `catalogue explorer' or prepopulated `Stockpile', with connecting lines between the components just dragged into place. Advanced line routing automatically avoids interference and maintains clearance.
Equipment and stream data need to be entered once only, with the software's design rule base ensuring data consistency and compliance with project and engineering standards. The engineer enters data, rules are executed and feedback is immediate.
