Moving all the ink that's fit to print
15 Jan 2000
Trouble-free transfer of a variety of screen printing ink products was what Sericol was looking for in its new production and warehousing operation in Broadstairs, Kent. The solution was found in the SSP positive rotary lobe pumps from Alfa Laval Pumps of Eastbourne, East Sussex.
The range of pumped media used in the production of Sericol's inks includes UV resins (some of which have very high viscosities), varnishes, pigments and other additives. The Broadstairs plant, which is due for completion in April, integrates production from other sites and will form the main distribution centre for the UK and international markets.
Building on successful long-term operation of SSPs at some of its other plants, Sericol has installed the pumps on a wide range of duties at the new site. DRI range pumps, with 4 and 6in diameter port sizes and ductile iron construction, are used on duties that do not demand stainless steel build, such as the transfer of UV resins from holding tanks. Pumps from the SR range, however, which use stainless steel for all product-contact components, are the preferred choice for moving media such as water-based inks.
