New Fluke thermal imager brings powerful diagnostics within reach of maintenance engineers
6 Apr 2006
Fluke, the world’s leading supplier of test and measurement equipment, has introduced the Ti20 Infrared Thermal Imager to bring the powerful diagnostic and predictive capabilities of infrared thermography within reach of industrial maintenance engineers. This new thermal imager represents a breakthrough in price-performance by providing detailed, fully radiometric images at less than £4k. Detailed on-camera inspection routes ensure that all potential problem areas are regularly visited to identify faults before they cause failure and loss of production.
Thermal imaging
Thermal imaging has typically been the exclusive domain of specialists in the field, and required the use of costly and difficult to operate equipment. With recent advances in sensor technology this non-contact, versatile measurement technique becomes available for a wider audience. By presenting a rich visual image, using colours to represent a temperature, these units facilitate a quick visual check of surface temperature and easy identification of hot spots, which are often an early indication of impending failure. By using thermal imaging as part of the maintenance operation, unplanned downtime and therefore cost can be reduced while improving production quality and efficiency.
Fully Radiometric
Although designed for simple handheld point-and-shoot operation, the Fluke Ti20 has an advanced sensor that uses radiometric measurement technology to store temperature data for all the thousands of calibrated measurement points on the thermal image. This fully radiometric measurement technique allows for detailed analysis, trending and the changing of image parameters such as the colour palette, emissivity and temperature range - either in the field or back in the office. By fine-tuning the image parameters, critical temperature differences can be made visible with maximum clarity. It also saves time because there is no need go back into the field to re-shoot images if the wrong image parameters were used when originally taking the image.
Optimised for predictive maintenance
With the InsideIR analysis software included with the imager, an inspection route can be set-up on the Fluke Ti20 detailing the sequence of equipment being tested at regular intervals. Clear step-by-step, on-camera instructions prompt the user through the series of locations to be scanned. The gathered images can be uploaded and compared with previous images to identify potential problems before they cause failure. This makes the Ti20 an effective tool as part of a predictive maintenance program.
High performance for industrial use
With its balanced design, the Fluke Ti20 fits comfortably in the hand for single-handed operation, and like all Fluke instruments, it is rugged and battery powered. The rechargeable batteries provide up to 3 hours continuous use, and with a temperature range measuring up to +350°C, the Ti20 covers virtually all industrial maintenance applications. Up to 50 images with radiometric data can be stored internally for later analysis.
Free Thermography pack
Fluke is offering a free, educational, thermography application guide which explains how thermography and thermal imagers can be utilised to locate and troubleshoot hotspots around commercial buildings and industrial complexes. The pack also includes a very informative colour poster to help electricians and industrial maintenance technicians when operating predictive and preventive maintenance programmes. The Fluke ‘Industrial Maintenance Application Guide’ can be requested free of charge by simply clicking on the thermography banner on the Fluke UK homepage
