New York-based manufacturer of ultrasonic flowmeters to join Siemens next month
Nuremberg, Germany -- Siemens Automation and Drives (A&D) is to acquire Controlotron -- a New York-based manufacturer of ultrasonic flowmeters. The firm¹s 120 staff and global sales network are to join Siemens with effect from May, the German group announced 11 April.
Controlotron ultrasonic devices are designed to accurately calculate the flow of liquids or gases using two sensors clamped onto the outside of the pipeline. The units are used particularly in the oil & gas, water/wastewater and energy industry applications.
The acquisition is part of an on-going plan to expand Siemens' position in the process automation sector, according to Anton Huber, the company¹s A&D vice president. Controlotron's, non-intrusive flow meters will complement Siemens¹ portfolio in process instrumentation, he said.
