Emerson to automate Mexico LNG terminal

The Altamira terminal, which is being built near Tampico on the Gulf of Mexico, will receive LNG shipments and convert them back to natural gas. Emerson’s responsibilities encompass development, installation, configuration, testing and commissioning across the entire process.
The facility will employ Emerson’s PlantWeb architecture along with its DeltaV automation system, AMD Suite: Intelligent Device Manager, and Rosemount smart temperature and pressure transmitters, the company said.
ICA Fluor and IHI are building the LNG facility, which is owned by a consortium comprising Shell Gas BV, Total Group and Mitsui & Co. Ltd. The Tampico terminal is scheduled to come on stream in October with an annual capacity 3.75 million tonnes.
“The project provides another opportunity to draw from our LNG experience that … includes digital automation improvement to upstream liquefaction and transportation processes,” commented Leo Rodriguez, president EMP Latin America.
