Smart camera a Windows 'first'
22 May 2006
Weybridge, UK -- Sony Europe's Image Sensing Solutions division has introduced an accessory kit for its XCI-SX1 smart camera, which it claims, makes it the first ever such device to fully support Microsoft Windows XPe.
The introduction means users of the XCI-SX1 can develop and deploy applications in Windows XPe environment, which is becoming the platform of choice in the machine vision market, said Sony. Target applications include smart camera integration in manufacturing, security, traffic control, medical, electronics and scientific applications.
Around 75% of machine vision applications today run under Windows, according to Arnaud Destruels, product marketing manager at Sony: "It is a familiar environment that will speed development and ease implementation for a wide variety of users."
The XCI-SX1 features an image sensor and frame grabber with an integrated x86-compatible AMD Geode processor, which runs the operating system and performs image pre-processing and camera control.
