Darling alerts planners
21 Jun 2006
Trade and industry secretary Alistair Darling wants local authorities to consider national interest when reviewing proposals for new gas storage facilities. £10 billion is currently being invested in energy infrastructure projects, but Darling said government is concerned that developers are facing uncertainty and avoidable delays in the planning system. Ten significant gas storage projects are said to be coming forward and UK storage capacity will more than double by 2010 if they go ahead on time.
