Cookware company refurbishes the furnace and heat treatment instrumentation at Sunderland plant
Sheffield, UK — ARC International Cookware has recently refurbished the furnace and heat treatment areas at its Wear Glass Works in Sunderland, where production includes the manufacture of Pyrex cookware.
Pyrex products are made from a special borosilicate glass formulation, which is shaped in a very high temperature moulding process that requires highly accurate temperature monitoring and control.
To refurbish of the glass furnace, Roxspur Measurement & Control (RM&C) of Sheffield supplied Brearley thermocouple sensors and cabling, plus Pt100 Platinum resistance thermometer sensors
According to RM&C, its sensors are designed for operations at temperatures of up to 1700°C. The units, it said, typically employ Brearley noble metal thermocouples with platinum and alloyed platinum/rhodium elements and alumina, silicon carbide or porcelain sheath materials.
