Fermentation fuels demand
21 Sep 2006
Chemineer of Derby is supplying its HT agitators for a major expansion of the world's biggest single bioethanol plant in Jilin, China. The Jilin Fuel Ethanol operation will employ the UK company's HT agitators in giant 3-million-litre fermentation tanks.
The rugged HT agitators, which have shaft lengths up to 15m long, are used to steadily concentrate the alcohol in a series of fermenters. Chemineer agitators are also used in the mash preparation tanks, where grain is converted to a slurry and mixed with enzymes.
The Jilin expansion project will increase the bioethanol facility's production capacity to 1,100 million l/yr, from 600 million l/yr.
Chemineer is also supplying agitators to the UK's first bioethanol production facility. The 70 million l/yr plant, near Downham Market, will produce biofuel from locally grown sugar beet.
