Drinks blender adds flexibility
21 Sep 2006
One of the UK's largest contract bottling companies, Villa Soft Drinks has reported significant operating gains from a recent investment in a new UK-built flowmeter blender and carbonator system.
Villa's soft drinks and spring waters production operation in Sunderland supplies over 60 million bottles of product annually, including established brands and customer own-label products. The company wanted to increase the flexibility of the operation, which produces a full range of soft drinks including carbonated and still flavoured sugar-free products and still fruit juices.
To meet its requirements Villa opted to install the Volumix 2 Beverage Processor from Central Bottling International, a Doncaster-based manufacturer of packaging and process equipment for the food, beverage and packaging industries.
The Volumix 2 is designed for easy recipe creation and management with a wide blend ratio ranging from 7:1 parts water to syrup to 2:1 parts water to syrup, and a carbonation range from 0-10 grams/litre at 15°C.
The machine has a maximum capacity of 50,000 l/r and includes a vacuum water de-aerator, high accuracy flowmeter and flow control valves for the water, the syrup, and the CO2 supply streams, claims CBI.
"We needed a mixer that offered a high level of flexibility, including fast flavour changes combined with accuracy of finished product and cost efficiency, according to Martin Fenwick, managing director of Villa Soft Drinks. "CBI's Volumix 2 offers precisely that and is seen by us as good value for money using up-to-date technology."
CBI, which introduced the Volumix 2 mass blending pre-mix system in 2005, claims to be the only company in the UK to manufacture this kind of equipment.
