Limescale protection first for low pressure steam generators
18 Oct 2006
Hydropath Ltd has launched a new water-conditioning product designed specifically for low -pressure steam generators, to protect them from the effects of limescale. SteamKlear S38 will protect heating systems that generate steam such as professional steam ovens used in catering establishments and saunas/steam rooms at leisure clubs and domestic dwellings.
The cost and practical benefits of physical water treatment for conventional water-based heating systems have been well documented, but limescale protection for steam generating equipment, up until now has proved more problematic. Softening water with salt has limitations and can cause corrosion within the system as well as having an environmental impact on the watercourse. SteamKlear S38 utilises patented technology to ensure that limescale deposits, including calcium carbonate, do not adhere to internal surfaces.
In relevant applications such as small aquariums, Hydropath technology offers other hygiene benefits because it combats bacteria and algae. SteamKlear S38 prevents the build up of limescale by emitting randomly varying electric fields throughout the system, including heat exchangers, pipes, pumps and other apparatus connected to the system. It enhances the precipitation of the bicarbonates from solution to suspension by introducing clusters of ions in the water to act as seed for suspended crystallisation. The resulting suspension therefore does not adhere to pipework or internal surfaces, but is merely 'washed away' with the flow and during blow down.
SteamKlear S38 is easy to fit to existing systems, without the need to cut into pipework and is available as ‘wired-in’ models or plug in.
For high-pressure steam boilers, Hydropath’s
