HMD Kontro Celebrate 60 Years of Producing Sealless Pumps With a Search for the Oldest in Active Service
HMD Kontro is the home of the sealless pump. The concept was developed in
The company, originally founded as Hydraulic & Mechanical Developments, and now part of the Sundyne Corporation, not only evolved the concept but also harnessed the magnet drive technology to produce both a comprehensive range of standard sealless pumps and also the facility to develop pumps, using their inherent expertise, to a customer’s particular requirements.
The benefits of a sealless pump have been particularly appreciated by those transferring liquids that are hazardous, harmful and/or hot. In particular, many sealess pumps are sold into applications that are particularly arduous.
However, with increasing EH&S (environmental, health & safety), concerns and regulations, sealless pumps are now being specified in place of traditional pumps, incorporating mechanical seals, because of their safety benefits. A sealless pump will not leak, and so will not create a hazardous spill or ecological hazard. Customers also appreciate the significantly lower maintenance time and costs, which is another benefit of the magnet drive pump.
To celebrate their 60th anniversary, HMD Kontro have launched a worldwide hunt for the oldest of their pumps still in active service. Whilst the company has heard of pumps that are still operating completely satisfactorily several decades after installation, they would like to identify the oldest pump still providing service. Indeed, they have offered a voucher to the value of £5,000.00 to pay for, or towards the supply of, a brand-new HMD Kontro pump from their current range, to the Company that has the oldest unit still operational.
Because the company’s products have been allocated a sequential serial number and accurate records are kept of all the pumps that have been sold, the task should certainly be possible. Therefore, if you have an HMD Kontro sealless pump within your factory or facility that has been there for a long time, please contact the company with the serial number and other details.
Robert Watling and Martyn Billing of HMD are leading the search. They can be contacted via email to rwatling@hmdpumps.com or mbilling@hmdpumps.com. Alternatively, via telephone on +44 (0) 1323 452000. Further details can be found on their website at www.hmdpumps.com.
