Manchester, UK - Chemicals Northwest is alerting its member companies about EU proposals to allow a further 80 chemicals into Europe, free of duty, with effect from 1 Jan 2010. The list, which contains some goods not classified as chemicals, can also be found on the BERR website then click on "new applications for duty suspensions".
Company planning to object to these proposals, should contact Neil Harvey at CIA. (HarveyN@cia.org.uk), a Chemical Northwest statement advises.
According to the Department for Business, Enterprise and Regulatory Reform (BERR), the Temporary Duty Suspensions and Tariff Quotas are intended to allow the duty-free import of raw materials, components and semi-finished products which can't be supplied in sufficient quantities from EC sources and used in a process to make another product.
This regime cannot be used simply to import goods for resale, emphasised BERR, which added that the suspensions are to allow unlimited quantities to be imported into the EU whereas quotas allow limited quantities to be imported.
