The downturn has not impacted the market for DCS I/Os – primarily used in process industries – as badly as it has the market for PLC- and PC-based I/Os used mainly in discrete industries. Thyis, said IMS Research, is mainly because many process industries purchasing DCS products plan for these investments over a year or two in advance; so delaying the impact of the global recession. The stronger emphasis on services in the DCS world, means demand for I/O modules controlled by DCS should grow more slowly to 2014, added IMS.
