London – Thai steelmaker SSI, which is buying Corus’ mothballed Teesside Cast Products plant, will be looking at possibly re-employing some of the 300 workers that were made redundant earlier this year, said the GMB. The group, it added, is also looking at creating between 800 to 1,000 new jobs.
At a meeting in Teesside the ex-Corus TCP employee trade union representatives met David Read the MD of SSI, and some of his team who are in the process of buying the Teesside steel-making plant.
Keith Hazlewood GMB national secretary said, “The MD of SSI made it clear that when the sale is complete they can start the process of recruitment and start making steel again on Teesside in the first quarter of 2011.
