Cussons installs Precia-Molen weighing systems at Salford plant

Salford, UK – PZ Cussons (PZC) has recently installed numerous process weighing systems from Precia-Molen of Redditch at its manufacturing plant in Agecroft, Salford.
Officially opened in July 2009 the £26 million purpose built innovation centre is the flagship production facility for the personal care products company.
This investment in manufacturing facilities allows for significantly more production capacity than what was previously available at their previous production sites in Kersal Vale and Ellesmere Port.
The plant which manufactures a wide range of cleaning and personal care products is highly automated and incorporates a PZC automation system via a Profibus network which provides critical stock and quality control information.
Precia-Molen supplied 30 vessel weighing systems, which were all integrated into the PZC system. The units ranged from raw material bulk storage vessels, mixing vessels and small capacity vessels used to check weigh small quantities of expensive additives.
The new plant, which operates at a high level, is designed to produce high-specification products, very efficiently, according to Precia-Molen.
Running on ’just-in-time’ procedures, raw materials are delivered by suppliers who can monitor stock levels remotely, via the weighing systems and the PZC automation system. They then schedule deliveries accordingly so that production is never interrupted.
For the project, Precia-Molen supplied stainless steel precision OIML load cells and mounts and Profibus enabled weight indicators which have performed well and proved very efficient since they were installed.
