UK cuts push chemical industry groups to join forces
2 Dec 2010
London – Regional chemicals trade body Chemicals North West (CNW) is set to become part of the Chemical IndustriesAssociation’s UK-wide operation.
The move is in response to the closure of the Regional Development Agencies (RDAs), and the establishment of Local Enterprise Partnerships, under the government’s spending review.
“This potential partnership sees the private sector stepping in where government has had to step away,” said CNW chairman Tony Bastock.
“Through its national sectoral lead, CIA will offer CNW members increased representational presence and continuity of local business support activities.”
For the CIA, president John Saul added: “The North West offers the largest and most profitable concentration of chemical manufacturers in the UK … this development will help chemistry-using businesses in the region - large and small - maintain and enhance [its] proud heritage.”
The demise of the RDAs has hit funding to regional chemical bodiies in the North East, Yorkshire, Humberside, the North West and Scotland. These initiative have all been working increasingly closely with CIA over the past year.
